Solar Does Good: Giving Back & "Brightening" Our Communities

Many of us within the solar industry share a common goal: To make the world a better, brighter place. So, how can we "walk the solar walk"? In what ways can we offer solar energy to communities in need? Which organizations are doing it best and what can we learn from them? How can we pitch in to improve our communities and demonstrate the intrinsic "do good" nature that lies at the root of going solar? And in what ways can such "giving back" help our solar businesses?

Moderator Raina Brett Russo, president and co-founder of EcoOutfitters.net, will be joined by Alyssa Newman from SunPower Corporation, Samantha Go from SolSolution, and John Alejandro from SELF.

Alyssa (@energyalyssa) manages SunPower's corporate sustainability efforts, including the SunPower Foundation, product donations, and volunteerism.

Samantha (@thesolsolution) is the marketing manager of SolSolution, a nonprofit social enterprise whose mission is to simultaneously generate clean, renewable electricity and increase the quality of education in underprivileged schools.

As SELF’s communications director, John (@solarfund) is dedicated to eliminating energy poverty through the use of solar energy. He has worked in the field of communications and sustainability for 15 years, helping renewable energy and environment-related companies establish their leadership. SELF’s mission is to implement solar energy solutions for those living in energy poverty to assist them with economic, education, health and agricultural development.

#SolarChat welcomes solar and renewable industry experts and consumers who are "solar curious" to discuss relevant issues like solar energy, solar PV, solar hot water, solar pool heating, and related subjects.

#SolarChat provides an opportunity to connect homeowners and qualified installation professionals, to demonstrate the affordability and environmental impact of all types of solar solutions, and to educate consumers on this emerging field. "We believe in the power of solar to change the world," says Raina Russo, moderator of #SolarChat and CEO/co-founder of EcoOutfitters.net. "We hope #SolarChat will further advance EcoOutfitters' goal of making solar a reality for every American home and business."

For those new to Twitter, a hashtag (#) is an easy way to find and follow people who are tweeting about a certain topic. #SolarChat has a simple mission: Curious consumers, energy experts, and installation professionals can tune into Twitter at the designated chat time to share advice and resources, weigh in on discussion topics, pose questions or concerns, and work together to advance solar awareness.

#SolarChat is held on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month from 2-3 p.m. EST.
